How to Spot a Resealed Booster Box or Pack (Pokémon, One Piece and More)
Sealed product sells at a premium because whoever opens it gets the chance at a big pull. That's exactly why some people open it, take the good cards and seal it back up. Here's what to check.
1. Check the shrink wrap
- Look at the seams and folds. Factory wrap is tight and neat, with clean, consistent seams. Resealed wrap is often loose, baggy, wrinkled, or has messy, melted-looking seams.
- Know the logo wrap. Many modern Pokémon booster boxes and Elite Trainer Boxes are wrapped in film printed with Pokémon logos. Plain wrap on a product that should have logo wrap is a warning sign. Look up what the genuine wrap looks like for the exact product.
- Look for glue, tape or cuts, especially on the bottom and the ends.
2. Check the packs
- The crimps (the sealed edges at the top and bottom) should be even and match other packs from the same set. Messy, uneven or glued crimps mean it's been opened.
- Weighed packs: some people weigh packs, because packs with a heavier holo or rare card can weigh slightly more, and sell the "light" ones. Loose packs from a stranger, especially from older sets, carry this risk even if they've never been opened.
- Packs that bend or feel loose in a booster box, or a box that rattles, are worth asking about.
3. Buy from the right people
- For valuable sealed product, buy from sellers with a good history, and check the photos closely: all sides, the seams, and the bottom.
- Ask for extra photos or a short video if anything's unclear. A genuine seller won't mind.
- Record a video of yourself opening anything expensive, from the unopened wrap to the first pack. If something's wrong, that's your evidence.
4. Selling sealed product
Photograph the wrap clearly, including the seams, bottom and any logos, and never reseal anything. On MVCollect, you confirm the factory seal is intact and shown in your photos when you list, and add a photo or video of the packed item when you mark it shipped. That protects you if a buyer later claims it arrived opened.
